Poiju (Buoy) is a standing butter knife, handmade from ceramics. Designer Marianne Huotari used SLA 3D-printing to prototype the form, before hand-finishing and creating a ceramic mould.
Linkki is a modular kinetic construction toy which uses planar linkage mechanisms to create movements and teach basic science, engineering and mathematics by hands-on playing.
Lankku Sunglasses are made from upcycled broken skateboard decks, giving each pair beautifully unique colour bands running through them. Blanks of prepared skateboard ply are lasercut to the rough form, before a lot of hand shaping!
For those times you just can’t reach where you need to reach… There’s two-sided machining. We walk you through the set up and running of a CNC job with cuts on both sides.
We’ve written a guide to help you through the 3D-Printing process. From choosing the correct type of printer for the job, to preparing your 3D model, to post-print clean up. We’ve got you covered!
It’s machine building time at Fab Academy! We’ve been experimenting with stepper-motors and control nodes to create a wall-mounted harmonograph.
Growbox is a ultraponic growing system that won’t look out of place in the home. It uses an ultrasonic fogger to keep roots hydrated, adaptive LED grow lights with programmable grow cycles, and has sensors for monitoring water-level, humidity and temperature.
Applications for Fab Academy 2017 are now open! Join the course that teaches you “how to make (almost) anything” from start to finish using digital fabrication and programmable electronics.
